With two consecutive home matches across different competitions to come over the next four days, David Luiz hopes we can set up an enjoyable Christmas by securing a couple of positive results.

The Blues tasted victory on Sunday at Brighton and now host Bournemouth, in the Carabao Cup, tomorrow, before welcoming Leicester City to the Bridge in the Premier League on Saturday, our final game before Christmas.

‘It’s always a big week,’ said David Luiz. ‘We have another competition on Wednesday and then we play Leicester so we have to take it step by step, it’s going to be difficult.

‘The Bournemouth game is important, it’s another competition and another trophy so we’re going to try to win it.

‘It’s going to be difficult, we have to understand that because it’s never easy to play in England and play in these competitions so we have to prepare well, rest well and try to win. If we do that then we can enjoy Christmas.’
It’s now two Premier League wins in a row for the Blues, but after dominating Sunday’s game against Brighton for long spells we endured a nervy finish after the home side reduced the deficit with 24 minutes remaining.

David Luiz, who scored in the previous weekend’s win over Man City (video above), wasn’t surprised given the competitive nature of the Premier League.

‘It was a big win and good for us to get another three points,’ said the Brazilian. ‘Normally when you don’t kill the game in the Premier League the other team believes until the end. Brighton were trying to play more long balls and get fouls to put the ball in the box. I think they only had one shot on goal so it wasn’t a difficult game mentally, it was more about the spirit.
