Only three people had scored more than 30 goals in a 38-match Premier League season before Mohamed Salah came to Liverpool last summer.

One of them, Alan Shearer, knows what it feels like to score with such regularity.

“You feel as if you’re unbeatable,” Shearer says. “You feel as if every time you get near the goal, that the ball is going to end up in the back of the net.”

Salah made history this weekend when he scored his 32nd goal of the campaign, the most since the division became a 20-team league.

Shearer record

The Egyptian broke the previous record of 31 set by Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez.

Shearer scored more than 30 goals for three consecutive seasons for Blackburn Rovers from 1993-1996 and knows how hard it will be for Salah to repeat the feat.

But the PL’s all-time top scorer says the shear variety of Salah’s goals will make 2017/18 a memorable one.

“When you’re looking to one of your players to do something different, do something special, more often than not it’s been Mo Salah,” he says.

“This season people will remember Salah and the impact that he had in his first season at Liverpool. No-one has been able to stop him.”
