The coach’s post-Super Cup verdict: “The lads got their approach spot on. It was a really good performance”

Massimiliano Allegri was in the mood for dishing out praise after watching his team claim their first trophy of the year in Jeddah.

“I’m really pleased and I want to congratulate everyone. The lads got their approach spot on,” the coach began after Juve’s 1-0 Super Cup triumph against AC Milan.

“It was an enjoyable match with lots of chances and a high tempo from the off, despite the heat and the fact it was only the second game after the winter break.

“We could have ended the game better after they went down to 10 men. We got caught on the counter three times. We should have used the width better because we ended up chasing them at times.

“Still, it was our second all-or-nothing game in a row and we’ve come through it well. Key to victory were our spirit and professionalism – you could see that from the contribution of the players who came on.”

Allegri also commented on Cristiano Ronaldo’s contribution, after the Portuguese struck the only goal of the game.

“He makes a difference but then that’s exactly why we signed him – for games like this. It wasn’t just his goal; his movement in general was excellent. The whole team moved well actually. It was a really good performance.”
