It is well known the Gunners are looking for a strong centre-forward and they’re also tracking Napoli hitman Gonzalo Higuain.

While Pipita has a €94m release clause in his contract, Icardi would be available at a cheaper rate – circa €50-70m – and is only 23 years old.

His record is impressive with 52 goals in 105 competitive games for Inter.

Under contract until June 2019, Icardi’s wife Wanda Nara (who also acts as his agent) gave a series of interviews this week complaining that Inter did not keep promises to increase his wages.

Atletico Madrid had seemed the favourites, while Napoli are eyeing him as a potential replacement for Higuain.
