Negotiations have been ongoing but even with nothing settled on, the club are planning to go ahead with the cut.Josep Maria Bartomeu was the first to express his desire to manage the delicate financial situation facing the club due to coronavirus,

and he said that it would be impossible to cover all expenses for the remainder of the season.Cutting players’ salaries was seen as the main solution immediately, and the captains in the squad acknowledged the situation and accepted that their income would likely take a hit.

But the players then weren’t impressed with the proposal put to them, with the club looking to cut 70 per cent of their pay.

It has since come to light that FIFA are advocating a 50 per cent cut in salaries while competitions are stopped.Barcelona’s board have since met and issued a statement explaining that as the players’ working days have been reduced, it’s a natural consequence that their pay will as well.
