Karim Benzema scored in the Champions League last-16 away leg against Ajax, netting his fourth goal against the Dutch side. That goal means Ajax are the team he has scored the most goals against in the competition, alongside Liverpool, APOEL and Bayern Munich.

That goal also saw the French marksman become fourth highest goal scorer in the European Cup, with 60 goals, and he had previously scored against Ajax three seasons running: 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13.

Key goals

The French star has scored at key times in the competition. Against APOEL, he scored a brace in last season’s Group Stage after having achieved the same feat in the 2012/13 quarter-finals. Against Liverpool, he will always be remembered for that goal in the final that saw the Whites win la Decimotercera; as well as the three he scored against them in the 2014 Group Stage. When it comes to Bayern Munich, his three madridista goals came in the semi-finals, one on the path to la Décima and two more last season. He also scored against the German side for Lyon.
