Bologna vs Lazio Preview and Prediction

High-flying Lazio will be eager to secure their third win in a row when they take on a Bologna side that hasn’t won in seven fixtures.

The Eternal City giants have enjoyed an incredible season under the tutelage of the impressive Simone Inzaghi, and with only four points separating them from a possible Champions League berth, they will be eager to take a victory off their remaining opponents.

Roberto Donadoni’s struggling Bologna are up next for them, and while on paper it may seem an easy challenge, the Rossoblu will not give up without a fight.

Still, confidence is at an all-time high after having claimed bragging rights in the Derby della Capitale in midweek, where goals from Ciro Immobile and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic saw the Laziali claim a 2-0 win in the semi-final of the Coppa Italia.

Inzaghi branded their performance as a “perfect game”, while Immobile described the result “one of the most beautiful evenings of my life.”

A full squad is at the disposal of Inzaghi, with just Federico Marchetti missing due to his long-term injury.

Bologna, meanwhile, are still flirting dangerously at the bottom end of the table, and are desperate to secure a victory.

They came agonizingly close in doing so against Genoa through a fantastic free-kick from Federico Viviani, however, a stoppage time goal from the Grifoni meant they had to settle for a draw.

In contrast, when welcoming Lazio to the Stadio Dall’Ara, Donadoni will have to make do without a number of players. Vasilis Torosidis will be suspended for the encounter after being sent off against Genoa, while Daniele Gastaldello, Domenico Maietta and Orji Okwonkwo are all sidelined through injury.

Current form may not favour Bologna for this match, but history does… In 62 home games against the Biancocelesti, Bologna have lost just 12 times, drawn on 17 occasions and claimed 33 wins.

Still, they can’t rely on what happened in the past and they will have to dig deep when they come up against a Lazio side, who have so far proven to be one of the best teams in Serie A this season.

Keep An Eye On: Ciro Immobile (Lazio) – The striker has found a new lease of life under Simone Inzaghi, where he has been finding the back of the net every second game. In 25 appearances in the league this season, Immobile has scored 14 goals and bagged four assists.
