Reeling contenders Borussia Monchengladbach (14-13-3, 45 points) will look to snap a two-game losing skid against streaking club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (8-12-10, 34 points) at the Stadion im Borussia-Park on Sunday, April 24th as the 2015-2016 Bundesliga season winds down to its final few matchdays.
Borussia Monchengladbach is high at the fifth spot of the current league table, tied on points with sixth and seventh-placed squads Mainz and Schalke but having a much superior goal differential than both teams.
They are also only four points behind fourth-placed team Hertha Berlin in the overall standings, which means they could still contend for a Champions League berth for next season if they could win as many games as possible in their last four assignments this season.
However, Die Fohlen is on a downward spiral as of late, losing two straight games and being defeated in four of their last six outings.
In their most recent German top flight match, Borussia fell prey to the current cellar dwellers Hannover 96, 0-2, at the latter’s home field of HDI-Arena on April 15th, as per Goal.
Following a scoreless first half, Hannover defender Waldemar Anton scored the first goal of the game four minutes into the second half. The hosts doubled their lead right at the hour mark with a right-footed shot from the center box by Polish forward Artur Sobiech as head coach André Schubert’s side continued to struggle in scoring goals late in the season.
Meanwhile, Hoffenheim managed to go on a five-game unbeaten streak which allowed them to climb to the 13th spot of the league table, still precariously three points above the bottom three relegation area, after spending much time at the bottom of the standings all throughout the season.
Manager Julian Nagelsmann’s squad defeated Hertha Berlin, 2-1, at the WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena last Saturday for their second straight victory, as reported by Vavel.
After Hertha’s Niklas Stark scored the opening goal at the 26th, Hoffenheim netted the next two to come away with the win, courtesy of defender Fabian Schar and forward Mark Uth at the 33rd and 85th minutes respectively.
If Die Kraichgauer can keep on winning in the last four matchdays, then they can avoid demotion to 2. Bundesliga next season.
The predicted result is a 1-0 upset win for Hoffenheim.
Borussia Monchengladbach starting lineup (4-4-2 formation): Sommer; Elvedi, Stranzl, Nordtveit, Wendt; Hazard, Dahoud, Christensen, Johnson; Stindl, Raffael
Hoffenheim starting lineup (3-1-4-2 formation): Baumann; Schar, Sule, Strobl; Polanski; Toljan, Amiri, Ochs, Volland; Uth, Kramaric
