Munich, Tuesday 10 March 2020: The Bavarian state government has today resolved to prohibit events with more than 1,000 visitors, initially until the end of the Easter holidays (including 19 April 2020).

This decision also has consequences for FC Bayern. The Champions League match against Chelsea FC on 18 March 2020 will be played as planned (kick-off 9 pm CET), but without spectators. FC Bayern today communicated this to the European Football Union (UEFA).

FC Bayern is thus implementing the decree of the Bavarian state government, which was issued to protect the population. The aim is to minimise the risk of coronavirus infection. The district administration department of the city of Munich responsible for approvals today informed FC Bayern of the conditions under which next Wednesday’s Champions League match against Chelsea FC may take place. Only persons contracted to work for the operation of the match are permitted to attend. TV coverage is guaranteed by the rights holder.

FC Bayern will refund the official ticket price to all purchasers of a ticket for the Champions League Round of 16 match against Chelsea. One-off purchasers and season ticket holders will be contacted individually and informed about the refund procedure.

A decision regarding FC Bayern’s other scheduled matches through 19 April has not been taken at the present time.
