Everton have experienced quite a rise under the tutelage of Carlo Ancelotti. The dismissal of Marco Silva and the arrival of the experienced Italian manager injected new life into The Toffees, and they were clearly on the rise before the suspension of the 2019-20 Premier League season due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The former Napoli tactician hasn’t stopped working, however, and he is already thinking about potential reinforcements for the 2020-21 campaign. The main area Everton need to strengthen their squad if they want to make a serious run at Europe is the attacking depth. Outside of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, The Toffees do not have reliable attacking alternatives to compete with some of the top teams in the EPL.
That’s why Ancelotti has decided to go all out and plan a move for Ciro Immobile. The Lazio striker has been one of the deadliest forwards in the Serie A over the last few seasons, and he is averaging close to one goal per game in all competitions this term while playing for Lazio. That’s why Ancelotti has set his sights in the 30-year-old forward.
What could Immobile bring to Goodison Park?
Immobile would represent a considerable upgrade over the current in-house alternatives. Moise Kean has not been a successful signing and, at this point, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to send him on loan for one season just to give him regular playing time. Who knows? Maybe Lazio will be open to accept him in a potential move for Immobile. The same goes for Cenk Tosun, who seems set to leave the club once the upcoming transfer market opens.
The Italian is more than comfortable as a target man. Plus, he is also keen at playing between the centre-backs, something that’s needed if we consider Everton has several interesting wide threats such as Richarlison, Theo Walcott and Bernard. All these players need a reference inside the box. Calwert-Lewin has done a good job in that department, but Immobile is a better, more experienced player.
The biggest issue with his arrival lies on whether Lazio will be open to let him go. The Serie A giants were a bonafide title contender in 2019-20 and that’s not likely to change any time soon. By the way they have assembled their squad, they are more than capable of repeating a title challenge in 2020-21 and beyond. Losing their best player and most reliable scoring threat would be a huge blow to the team’s long-term plans.
That said, Immobile would be a hit for Everton. The Toffees should go all out in trying to acquire the 30-year-old striker. He would be an excellent signing for the 2020-21 season.
