The Premier League titleholders Leicester City make their UEFA Champions League debut with a trip to Belgium to face Club Brugge on Wednesday night.

Club Brugge are the Belgian domestic league holders are they are returning to the Champions League group stages for the first time since 2005/06. They are yet to progress beyond the group stage in their five previous attempts. The Belgian side had a dismal run in the Europa League last season, as they managed just 1 win from their 6 matches and failed to progress to the knock-out stages.

Leicester City’s fairy-tale run might have come to end as seen in their heavy 4-1 defeat against Liverpool. But there is plenty to hope for as Claudio Ranieri has been successful in taking teams to the knock out stages in four of his previous five attempts. The best of which came with Chelsea when he steered the Blues to the semi-finals in 2004.

The other teams in Group G for the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League are FC Porto and FC Copenhagen.

Club Brugge vs Leicester City: Head-to-Head Stats

This will be the first ever meeting between Club Brugge and Leicester City in a competitive match.

Brugge have a relatively good record against Premier League clubs. They have seen 6 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats from the previous 10 meetings. They met Manchester United Manchester United in last season’s UEFA Champions League play-offs and lost both legs, 3-1 at Old Trafford and 4-0 at home. They were unbeaten in the previous 8 encounters with English sides.

Club Brugge vs Leicester City: Prediction

Leicester City are in a kind of deep slump in form and overall performance. They are nowhere near the team that lifted the English Premierhsip title last season. They managed just 1 win from their 4 competitive matches so far, while lost twice and drawn 1. They are still capable of scoring goals at will, but their defending is a big let-down.

At the same time, Bruges are also in the worst possible form as they are win-less in their last three fixtures. Also, they managed just one win from their five competitive fixtures, tasting defeats in 3. Considering their poor record in Europe in recent seasons and Leicester’s recent troubles, this match could end in anyone’s favour. So a double chance for any side to win is a perfect bet for this match. But expect the number of goals to stay over 2.5.
