APPIANO GENTILE – On the eve of Juventus vs. Inter in Serie A, Antonio Conte spoke to Inter TV about the challenge ahead: “We’re approaching the match in the right manner despite the difficulties, because changing schedule and having matches cancelled hasn’t been easy, but as I said to the boys we have to adapt quickly, continue the hard work we’ve been doing and always try our best. In general, we’re in good shape. Obviously we had to adapt our plans, but we’ve still trained well and from this point of view the boys are extraordinary because they they’re willing to self-sacrifice and they have great hunger to raise the bar, which is why we have the chance to play these crucial games that mean a lot to the league table. We approach this challenge with great desire and determination and the intelligence to adapt to these changes.”

As per the regulations, Juventus vs. Inter will be played behind closed doors: “Of course it becomes difficult because obviously the crowd is important when playing football, especially in such crucial matches. However, in this very delicate moment, we must take great care because public health comes first and so we must adapt to try to make things as safe as possible.”

He also commented on the opponents and the match: “Every match has its own story, it’s inevitable that in this type of game the small details will make the difference. We know we’re facing a very strong team and we have the upmost respect for what they’re doing. On our part, we have the hunger and determination to work hard and get as close as possible, and it’s important for us to raise the bar. Juventus against Inter will be a great game, but the important thing is that behind it there are big repercussions regarding the league table. This is testiment to the work that the players have done and I’ll always be grateful to them for what they give every day and for the fact that they themselves have the ambition to be competitive.”

On Lukaku’s performance: “I can only be happy. Romelu is doing extremely well in his first year in Italy, he is a great example and is working hard to improve himself and the team. I’m very happy with what he is doing, but let’s not forget that behind him there is a great team that supports him in everything.”

After Juventus, Inter will face Getafe in the Europa League round of 16: “It will be a tough, hard-fought game, Getafe are a revelation in Spanish football who combine quality and great tenacity, they are a compact team led by a very good coach. You have to be good to progress and we know that the first leg will be behind closed doors, so we’ll have to adapt to this situation knowing that we’ll be facing a team in great form in the Spanish league.”

Finally, he commented on the upcoming schedule: “It’s not easy because this is a delicate situation, we all have families and it’s inevitable that we’re not immune to what is going on. We’re all trying to deal with this situation in the best way possible. Having said that, it’s important for us to know that on matchday we have a clear programme because as top professionals we must plan and prepare every minor detail. Football always reflects human and sporting values and we must combat this tricky time with even more strength than usual.”
