CSKA Moscow and Tottenham Hotspur look for their first win in Champions League when they meet for the first time in a UEFA competition.

CSKA Moscow have made a dramatic comeback in their first match of the group stage as they fought back from 2 goals down to level the scores against Bayer Leverkusen. All four goals fell inside the first 40 minutes of the match as Ahmed Mehmedi and Hakan Calhanoglu put the Bundesliga side on front within 15 minutes. This was cancelled out by two quick strikes in the 36th and 38th minute by Alan Dzagoev and Roman Eremenko.

Tottenham on the other hand were colourless in the 2-1 defeat at home to Monaco in their first match. Just like CSKA’s match, all the goals came in the first half. The Ligue 1 side rose to a 2-0 lead through Bernardo Silva and Thomas Lemar goals in the 9th and 31st minute. Then a Toby Alderweireld strike reduced the deficit just before half time whistle. Despite having majority of ball possession in the second half, the Premier League side failed to find a way through a stubborn Monaco defense.

Monaco will play Bayer Leverkusen in the second fixture of Group E on the matchday 2 of the Champions League 2016/17.

CSKA Moscow vs Tottenham: Head-to-Head Stats

The Tuesday’s Champions League 2016/17 Group E clash will be the first ever meeting between CSKA Moscow and Tottenham Hotspur in an UEFA Competition.

CSKA’s record against English club from 15 matches so far is 3 wins, 5 draws and 7 losses. While playing at home, they have a moderate record of 2 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses. They were grouped together with Manchester United in the group stages last season. They drew the first leg in Moscow 1-1 and fell to a lone goal from Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford.

The Spurs have met Russian oppositions on 5 occasions and have a good record with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. They lost and won 1 each in their two trips to Russia.

CSKA Moscow vs Tottenham: Prediction

CSKA Moscow is a tough place for visiting sides to return with all three points. In their last 7 Champions League home fixtures, CSKA lost just once. The defeat came in their last fixture of last season against Wolfsburg, while the previous 6 involves draws against some strong teams like Manchester City, Roma and Manchester United.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side has some talented players, but they haven’t done well against quality sides. The two quality sides they met so far this season is Liverpool in Premier League and Monaco in the Champions League. Both matches were at home and failed to win in both. So this is expected to be a tough test, especially considering the hostile atmosphere inside the CSKA Stadium.
