Deportivo La Coruna v Atletico Madrid Betting Tips Explained

Atletico Madrid’s title challenge appears to be over and they are now facing a fight just to finish in the top four and secure Champions League football for next season. Only one point separated Atletico and Real Sociedad heading into the midweek fixtures and that means these two clubs may have swapped places by the time this match kicks off. But even if that has not happened, the pressure is on Atletico to claim all three points on Thursday night.

Next up for Diego Simeone’s men is a trip to face a Deportivo La Coruna side that are also in desperate need of a victory. However, European football is not on their minds because Deportivo are battling against relegation at this time. They are just one place and two points above the bottom three heading into the midweek fixtures and they could find themselves in the drop zone if results go against them before they play. Deportivo really need to pull off an upset here – but can they?

My answer is a definitive ‘no’. Atletico’s away record this season does not make for pretty reading, but they have improved over the past few months. They have won each of their last two away games, beating Sporting Gijon in the league and Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, and those results came on the back of a Copa del Rey draw at Barcelona. Atletico are unbeaten in their last eight away games in all competitions and they should beat a Deportivo side that have lost their last four games and are winless in nine in all competitions.

I expect striker Kevin Garmeiro to play a goal-scoring role in the victory for Atletico. The Frenchman is enjoying a purple patch right now, having enjoyed a barren spell during January and February. Gameiro has now scored five goals in his last five appearances for Atletico Madrid and he can at least make it six in six with a goal against Deportivo La Coruna.
