Wolfsburg has finally snapped an eight-game winless slide with a 3-0 breakthrough victory over newly-promoted squad SC Freiburg on the road at the Mage Solar Stadion on Nov. 5 before the international break, as per SkySports.
Mario Gomez was the man of the match for new head coach Valérien Ismaël as the German striker scored a brace in the 41st and 53rd minutes.
Freiburg defender Christian Gunter was sent off in the 85th minute after getting called for a foul inside the penalty area. Swiss defender Ricardo Rodriguez then converted the ensuing penalty kick to seal the match and give Die Wölfe their first win since the opening day of the season.
With the win, Wolfsburg climbed out of the relegation zone up to the 14th spot of the league table, two points above the bottom three.
Meanwhile, Schalke extended its unbeaten run to five games after crushing bottom three team Werder Bremen, 3-1, at their home ground of Veltins Arena on Nov. 6, ESPN reported.
Austrian midfielder Alessandro Schopf netted a brace to lead head coach Markus Weinzierl’s side in the game.
Schopf opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a header from the center of the box. It was immediately doubled by Algerian teammate Nabil Bentaleb three minutes later to give the home team an early 2-0 lead.
Werder Bremen forward Serge Gnabry then scored a goal with a penalty kick in the 42nd minute to trim the gap to only one point at the halftime break.
Schopf scored his second goal in the 63rd off a cross by teammate Sead Kolasinac to seal the win for Die Knappen.
