FC Porto vs Juventus Preview and Prediction

Juventus will have been happy with the draw they received in the first knockout round of the Champions League and can put themselves on course for the quarter-finals by winning in Portugal.

Having dominated Italian football for the last five years, the next target for Juve is to conquer Europe as well and they went close in 2015 when reaching the Champions League Final before losing to Barcelona.

With a bit of luck on their side, the Serie A kings will fancy their chances of contesting the showdown in Cardiff on June 3 and they are fully expected to get past one of the three biggest-priced outsiders left in the competition to advance to the last eight.

In fairness to Porto, they are regulars in the Champions League knockout phase and two seasons ago led 3-1 after the home leg of their quarter-final against Bayern Munich before crumbling to a 6-1 defeat in Germany.

This time, they had what looked one of the easier groups but it was only on the final match-day that they qualified at the expense of Copenhagen by winning 5-0 at home to a Leicester City side who had already wrapped up top spot.

Juventus, meanwhile, were undefeated and their only dropped points were in a couple of home draws with Sevilla and Lyon, which illustrates just how strong Massimiliano Allegri’s side are on their travels in Europe even if it is nowhere near as much the same case domestically.

Porto’s form took an upturn after their autumn Champions League commitments were concluded, but nevertheless there looks to be a distinct gulf in quality between these teams and we expect Juve to kick off the return match in Turin with an advantage before finishing the job of taking their place in the last eight.
