We had chances in the first half and so did they, but Alphonse (Areola) saved well. We must congratulate Caen. I leave PSG with a lot of positive things and I wish them the best for the future. Olivier Dall’Oglio (DFCO coach): “Kwon (Chang-hoon)’s injury put a big dent in the evening. Without him we were a little under pressure and didn’t do well at the start of the second half. Time and again Baptiste (Reynet) kept us in it. We gave away possession too much and exposed ourselves to counter-attacks. It’s a bit unfortunate, just like our season.”
Stéphane Moulin (Angers coach): “I’m not happy with the result. Our players were professional till the end. Even if we lost we can hold our heads up high. Dijon’s best player was their goalkeeper.”
Olympique Lyonnais 3-2 OGC Nice
Bruno Génésio (Lyon coach): “We must congratulate the players who played an exemplary season, qualifying for the Champions League, which was the goal. Our president, throughout all the ups and downs, never gave up and always supported us. It’s quite emotional because our whole season hinged on this match. We can be proud of what’s been built up for several years now at Lyon. Memphis (Depay) certainly had one of his best ever seasons, like Nabil (Fekir) who led the team, completely fulfilling his role as captain.”
Lucien Favre (Nice coach): “This was my last match in charge of Nice tonight. I will be leaving Nice and France but I can’t say more for now. I’ve had two fantastic years here, on a human and sporting level. It was great but leaving is part of football. It was my choice.”
Olympique de Marseille 2-1 Amiens SC
Rudi Garcia (Marseille coach): “We must be proud of our team this season. This is the first time that a team with 77 points has ever finished outside the top three. After the disappointment of losing the Europa League final (3-0 against Atletico Madrid) last Wednesday it wasn’t easy to come back and win this game, but the players did that and they did it well. There have been incredible moments at the Vélodrome and it was beautiful again tonight. We’re delighted to have made the people of Marseille proud of the team.”
Christophe Pélissier (Amiens coach): “I’m proud of our match and our season. We had a lot of trouble at the start but we recovered and it meant there was no pressure on this match. It was a great atmosphere. Everyone agrees that the second season is the hardest. When you get a reception like that from the fans you know you’ve done something right.”
FC Metz 0-4 Girondins de Bordeaux
Frédéric Hantz (Metz coach): “The defence that started tonight started the season in the third tier. We must respect the players who wore the colours of Metz. The match was difficult, especially against a Bordeaux side chasing Europe. Tonight, I have an inner fury but I know this frustration will quickly turn into a positive energy. I feel that I’m one of those who remained true till the end. From tomorrow, my future lies elsewhere.”
Gustavo Poyet (Bordeaux coach): “I think the most important thing is that we did our job. We experienced something special. It was really special to follow the Lyon match with the fans and the players on a phone. But it was hard to watch. I didn’t want to be given the result during the match, but I was told about it. We must thank the players first and then the staff. The goal for the season, Europe, is fulfilled, it’s done. We must have fun now. The players deserve to have a good week. My summer has already changed a lot now!”
FC Nantes 1-0 RC Strasbourg Alsace
Claudio Ranieri (Nantes coach): “I’m satisfied with this final match. We played well for an hour. Nantes has been a great experience. These are fantastic fans who deserve a lot. Now, let’s have a holiday by the sea! I have nothing for next year. I’m free and I want to coach. In any case, I have passion, my motivation is intact. I have to rest and see if there is a good project out there.”
Thierry Laurey (Strasbourg coach): “I promised to pay for the journalists’ champagne if we finished 17th! The press conference is over, and I will therefore keep my word! I also thank the supporters who backed us everywhere. I’m very proud of them.”
Stade Rennais FC 1-1 Montpellier Hérault SC
Jérémy Gélin (Rennes defender): “Many fans have been waiting for European football for a long time. Now it is here. What we just achieved is a big thing. To seal a European place the way we did is huge! Chelsea will play in the Europa League next year. To imagine playing at Stamford Bridge when at the start of the season you were anticipating a mid-table finish… Europe changes a club. This might be a once-in-a-lifetime thing.”
Michel Der Zakarian (Montpellier coach): “I’m very happy to have returned to Montpellier and to have had a good season. But for me there is has a flavour of being unfinished as we finished badly. We had European qualification in our hands but we failed in the home stretch. We were too inconsistent at home.”
AS Saint-Etienne 5-0 LOSC
Jean-Louis Gasset (Saint-Etienne coach): “When we see a match like that, a crowd like that, it gives you goose bumps. In the absence of Rémy Cabella, Romain Hamouma did well. But tonight, can afford to smile. There’s no shame in not qualifying for the Europa League. We had too much to make up and our goal-difference wasn’t good enough.”
Christophe Galtier (LOSC coach): “It was a lot of fun seeing a lot of people I like a lot before the match. After, we were missing a lot on a sporting level but we felt it coming. We were so committed to staying up but we struggled to balance defence and attack. We were rightly punished and conceded five. That’s 67 in total. We must learn our lessons and build a new team.”
Toulouse FC 2-1 EA Guingamp
Michael Debève (Toulouse coach): “It was important to win. We would have liked to have secured automatic survival but if we have to go through the trenches then that’s what we’ll do. We were dependant on other results and they didn’t go our way. We will prepare for these two play-off games. We have no preference between Le Havre and Ajaccio because these are two great teams who did really well in Ligue 2.”
Antoine Kombouaré (Guingamp coach): “I’m disappointed with our final ranking of 12th. This defeat was just like the rest of our season. We’ve been too inconsistent. I wish Toulouse the best of luck. I hope they stay up.
ESTAC Troyes 0-3 AS Monaco
Jean-Louis Garcia (Troyes coach): “We were beaten by a much stronger team than ourselves. It’s not a surprise. Toulouse won so we have fewer regrets. My players tried until the very end but it proved a bit beyond us. It’s hard, we failed in our goal, we are extremely disappointed. We will analyse things, see what we missed, and then we’ll see.”
