For the second time this season, Juventus will have to rebound after a surprise loss as they welcome Sampdoria to Juventus Stadium on matchday ten.

Massimiliano Allegri had not lost to former side Milan since being sacked in January 2014 and taking over Juventus a few months later. However, that run came to an end on Sunday evening as the Bianconeri were defeated by the Rossoneri for the first time in Serie A in nearly four years. This means that Juventus have now seen their lead cut to just two points, and with Milan playing on Tuesday, La Vecchia Signora could actually see themselves possibly slipping down into second spot should the Diavolo beat the Grifone.

Both of Juve’s defeats have been in Milan and against the two teams hailing from that city. That being said, they are still the heavy favorites to make it an unprecedented sixth straight Scudetto, and these minor dips should have no impact on what will likely be a successful campaign for the Turin titans. Next up, however, is a tough clash with title rivals Napoli, and Juventus naturally will want to head into that game having recovered from their disappointing result from this past Sunday.

Meanwhile, Sampdoria picked up a 2-1 win over cross-town rivals Genoa in last weekend’s first installment of the Derby della Lanterna. It was a much-needed result for a team who were in crisis. The Blucerchiati had not won a match since August, when they edged Atalanta out 2-1, but despite the confidence booster, the odds are heavily stacked against them for this game.

Juventus vs Sampdoria: Head-to-Head statistics

  • Juventus have won their past 20 home league games.
  • The Bianconeri have scored at least two goals in their last eight home games
  • Sampdoria have won just one out of their last ten road games.

  • La Vecchia Signora failed to score for the first time in Serie A when they lost 1-0 to Milan on Sunday.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals in Juve’s last five home games and in five out of their last six home games against Sampdoria.
  • Juventus have won 19 out of their last 20 home games against teams ranked below them in the table (one draw).
  • Sampdoria have only won one out of their last 20 away games against teams ranked higher than them in the table (six draws, 13 losses).

Juventus vs Sampdoria: Prediction

Juventus will be smarting after their loss to Milan and will come into this game knowing that they will need a result in order to avoid letting Roma and the Rossoneri catch up to them. The loss to Milan came at a huge cost, as Paulo Dybala was subbed off injured. This means that Mario Mandzukic, who had seen his playing time limited, will now be re-instated into the starting XI. However, his partnership with Gonzalo Higuain has not been a fruitful one, and fans will be hoping to finally see the Croatian and the Argentinian work in sync up top.

Sampdoria will be feeling good after a derby win, but Juventus should be able to rebound after their loss to pick up all three points here and stay on top of the Serie A table.
