Despite missing two matches with injury and the two-month break due to the coronavirus pandemic, Robert Lewandowski scored in his comeback as if nothing had happened. The Poland international scored the crucial opener when he converted a penalty in the 2-0 victory over Union Berlin.

He scored his 26th league goal on Matchday 26, setting a personal record. Only Gerd Müller (31) achieved a higher number after 26 matches. Lewandowski has scored 40 goals in all competitions so far this term, more than any other player in the top five European leagues.

Lewandowski stepped up in the 40th minute, and the Bavarians had reason to be confident. The striker has netted an incredible 21 of his 23 penalties in Bayern colours. He powered home into the bottom right corner of the net, leaving keeper Rafal Gikiewicz without a chance. “Lewy is making a very good impression, he’s top fit,” said head coach Hansi Flick after the match: “He scored another goal.”
