The 32-year-old has been in brilliant form this season too, scoring 24 goals and registering 16 assists in just 31 games in all competitions, with the striker one of the main reasons why Barcelona find themselves placed on top of the LaLiga table while also remaining in contention in the UEFA Champions League.

Of those 24 goals, Messi has scored eight from outside of the box this season which is not only the most for a player but also netted more goals from outside the box than any other club, which includes all of them in Europe’s top-five leagues.

Messi has one more than Chelsea who came in second place with seven goals, tied with rivals, Manchester United who have seven to their name as well. Liverpool and Real Madrid round up the top-five list with their players scoring six goals from outside the box.

With football currently suspended due to the ongoing coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic, it will be interesting to see whether Messi can add to his tally in the foreseeable future.
