The Azzurri had an experimental line-up for this friendly, ahead of Nations League matches against Poland and the Netherlands, but managed to celebrate senior Italy debuts for Francesco Caputo and Alessio Cragno.

The Sassuolo striker even found the net in Florence, along with a Stephan El Shaarawy brace, Bryan Cristante, Domenico Berardi’s first for the Azzurri and an own goal.

“We had a few difficulties in the first 15 minutes, which was to be expected considering the number of new faces, but then did well.

“It’s a positive note that we had so many changes and yet maintained the same mentality,” the coach told RAI Sport.

There was a definite Sassuolo sense to the Nazionale this evening, with Caputo, Domenico Berardi and Manuel Locatelli in the starting XI.

“I think Berardi, Locatelli and Caputo did very well, especially in the first half. Caputo moves well as a centre-forward, he does well and if he continues like this, he can have his say for the Euros squad. Having said that, we have plenty of strikers who are doing well, so it depends on what they do for the rest of the season.”
