The World Cup winner has revealed that he would like to see the championship concluded on the pitch, even if it will affect next season.

“I’m of the opinion that the championship should be completed, all of them,” he told Radio Sportiva. “If they end in May, August or September remains to be seen.

“It will mean that the next season will be more condensed.”

Lippi left his second stint as Italy coach in 2010 and the former Inter and Juventus coach has since spent five years in China, first as the head coach of Guangzhou Evergrande before taking over the national side.

The 71-year-old stepped down in November and has followed Italian football closely. He now suggests the matches should resume and broadcasted on national TV but carried out behind closed doors to finish of the current campaign on the pitch.

“I know that playing behind closed doors is not football, but when it’s not possible to have the fans there, you can broadcast the games for free on TV.”
