Marseille vs Paris Saint Germain Preview and Prediction
Champions PSG failed to capitalise after Monaco’s slip up in the Ligue 1 title race and they could be 6 points adrift of the top of the table by the time they visit Marseille on Sunday night. Unbeaten since before Christmas in the league, Unai Emery’s side are expected to be neck and neck with Monaco for the crown come this May, in what looks like being a thrilling end to the season. PSG have only lost 4 matches this season, but all have been on the road. Emery’s team are the second biggest scorers in the division, bagging 50 goals from their 26 matches so far.
Key to their title challenge has been the electric form of Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani, who already has a massive 25 goals to his name in 2016/17. The team’s next highest scorer is Lucas Moura on 8, so Cavani will need to keep up his efforts if PSG are to claim the title. Defensively, they also have the meanest defence in the league, conceding just 18 times so far.
Marseille meanwhile are currently in 6th position and have been relying on their home form to keep in touch with the top 4. They are now 4 points behind 4th placed Lyon who they must overhaul to secure a spot in next season’s Europa League competition. A big blow is the injury to Bafetimbi Gomis, whose 16 goals have been vital to Marseille this season. He is not likely to play although the continuing good form of Florian Thauvin, who has scored 7, may provide some comfort.
We expect there to be a few goals in this one, so our advice is to back a bet of Over 3 Goals at 13/8 with bet365.
Our correct score prediction is for PSG to win 3-1. That is valued at odds of 12/1 also with bet365.
