There was good news for coach Niko Kovac the day after the draw at home to Hertha Berlin. Javi Martinez was able to train with the rest of the squad for the first time after a long injury layoff. The Spaniard complained of knee problems after the Audi Cup and that prevented him playing in the Bundesliga opener on Friday night.

To the great relief of the coach and over 1,500 employees of the FCB partner HypoVereinsbank, who were invited to the session on Saturday afternoon, the 30-year-old returned to the training ground. Before the work-out started, there was plenty of time for Martínez & Co. to sign autographs and have their photos taken with the HVB employees. But then it was time for intensive drills and Martínez was fully involved – up to the practice match at the end. FC Bayern now have two days off before the run-in starts to the game against Schalke 04 on matchday two.
