With three appearances in Mexico’s four matches in the 2019 Gold Cup, MF Jonathan dos Santos has played a key role in El Tricolor’s arrival to the semifinals and expects a stiff challenge on Tuesday.

It’s very important that the team has reached this point. The last game [vs. Costa Rica] was a tough game against one of the strongest teams in Concacaf, said Dos Santos in an exclusive interview with Concacaf.com.

We know that we have a difficult opponent in Haiti, who have been the surprise of the tournament. It is going to be a physical match and they’re going to try to play their game, but I think the team is in good shape and confident and we hope tomorrow to have control of the match.

With a total of nine career Gold Cup matches under his belt, Dos Santos has never tasted defeat in the tournament and is motivated each time he takes the field with the national team, especially in the Gold Cup.

Anytime I’m playing for the national team, whether it be a friendly or any match, I always try to give my 100 percent best. The Gold Cup is an important tournament for us because when you win it, it means you make history in the region and across the world. I’m happy and I think I’m in one of the best moments of my career in all aspects, personally and from a football perspective, said Dos Santos.

After raising the trophy four years ago with Mexico, Dos Santos is driven to once again experience the feeling a being a Concacaf champion.

Winning the Gold Cup is an incredible feeling. I got to experience it in 2015 in winning the final against Jamaica. It is a sensation that leaves you speechless. I think winning it with the national team is very significant. Raising a trophy and being a champion says a lot, concluded Dos Santos.
