Monaco’s eight-game unbeaten streak was snapped in their most recent fixture last Sunday as the team was romped by fellow contenders Lyon, 1-3, at the Stade Louis II, Goal reported.
Lyon midfielder Rachid Ghezzal already drew first blood in the 29th minute before French defender Benjamin Mendy was booked with a straight red card for violent conduct in the 39th after a run-in with midfielder Corentin Tolisso.
Lyon took advantage and scored a second goal in the 65th minute against the 10-man squad of head coach Leonardo Jardim, courtesy of Frenchman Mathieu Valbuena.
Monaco was able to score a goal in the 70th minute with a right-footed shot by French midfielder Tiemoué Bakayoko before Lyon striker Anthony Lacazette netted his team’s third goal with three minutes left before full-time to seal the win.
Even with the loss, Les Rouges et Blancs remained in the second spot of the league table, four points behind current league leaders Nice.
Meanwhile, Caen has snapped a four-game winless slide as the team routed lowly team Metz, 3-0, at their home ground of Stade Michel d’Ornano last Sunday, as per Sporting Life.
French winger Yann Karamoh broke the game’s deadlock in the 20th minute with a header from the center of the box off a cross by Vincent Bessat.
Metz defender Milan Bisevac was then sent off in the 57th minute also for violent conduct, giving the hosts a one-man advantage.
Croatian striker Ivan Santini doubled the lead in the 61st minute before Senegalese forward Pape Sane sealed the game in stoppage time.
