Jamal Musiala seemed to be in the air for an age. In the 37th minute of the match between VfL Wolfsburg and FC Bayern, the 18-year-old soared high to meet a cross from Thomas Müller. With superb touch, the attacker headed the ball into the right-hand corner to score the third goal for Munich, who ultimately celebrated an important 3-2 win.

Musiala had put in extra shifts during the week for this goal, his first headed goal in professional football. “He was working on headers with Hermann Gerland this week, so I’m enormously pleased,” Hansi Flick said after the game. “It was probably his best header I’ve seen so far. That’s what got us the win,” the FCB head coach continued.
Musiala shines again
But that was only one of several moments in which Bayern’s youngster sparkled on Saturday. Musiala had handed his side the lead after 14 minutes, showing “snake-like moves,” as Müller characterised Musiala’s dribbling. “When dribbling, when it’s tight, he always keeps his head high, he has so many feints up his sleeve. He can wriggle his way through very tight spaces,” Flick said in praise of the Germany international. Musiala had sidestepped his opponents against Union Berlin last week, leaving the defence without a chance before scoring.
He built on the performance in Wolfsburg, where he scored two goals for Bayern for the first time, making him the club’s youngest player to net a brace in the Bundesliga. Musiala is also the youngest player to reach six goals in Bundesliga history. “His development is good, and he can still learn a few things,” said Flick: “I’m excited about his future.”
