Paris were straight onto the front foot against a visting Amiens side who also booked their place in the last 8 of the Cup in midweek.

After chances to Mauro Icardi and Angel Di Maria, Les Rouge et Bleu struck a hammer blow on the counter attack when Neymar Jr released Kylian Mbappé.

The World Cup winner lifted the ball home (1-0, 10′) – the perfect way to celebrate his 21st birthday this week, by scoring in his seventh consecutive match for Les Rouge et Bleu.

Paris were dominating the match but suffered a blow of their own when Abdou Diallo was forced off with injury (22′),

which saw Marco Verratti enter the fray in midfield as Marquinhos dropped back into defence.

Regis Gurtner in the visiting goal somehow kept his side in the match, including a remarkable triple save to deby Leandro Paredes, Di Maria and Neymar Jr (31′).

It was only 1-0 at half-time, but Paris Saint-Germain doubled their lead less than a minute after the restart, when Mauro Icardi perfectly set up Neymar Jr to blast home his fifth of the season (2-0, 46′).

Amiens tried to find a way back into the game but Keylor Navas produced a truly breath-taking save to turn Dibassy’s flick onto the crossbar (53′).

Angel Di Maria then played in Mbappé for his second of the night – his 41st of 2019 (3-0, 65′).

Steven Mendoza did get Amiens on the scoreboard as Amiens became just the second team to score at the Parc des Princes this season (3-1, 70′).

With six minutes left, Juan Bernat provided his third assist of the campaign as Icardi fired home his ninth of the season (4-1, 84′).

Paris maintain their seven-point lead at the top of the standings over second-placed Marseille and head off to the Christmas break on a winning note for the fifth year in a row.

The team will be back in training on 2 January 2020 ahead of the first match of the New Year away to Linas-Monthlery in the Rd-64 of the Coupe de France!
