Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane is expected to miss the Champions League final because of a muscle injury.

The La Liga club revealed tests conducted on Sunday showed the France international had sustained a “grade 2 injury” in his left thigh muscle.
Madrid said Varane’s “recovery will continue to be assessed,” but he is likely to be sidelined for about three weeks because of the ailment.

Madrid will try to win an 11th Champions League title when they play cross-city rivals Atletico Madrid in the final of Europe’s elite-club competition next Saturday in Milan.

The injury should not derail Real’s preparations ahead of the tie at the San Siro, with Varane behind Zinedine Zidane’s preferred defenders Sergio Ramos and Pepe.
