CA River Plate
Three time Copa Libertadores champions put themselves in a great position to lift their fourth trophy after a 2-2 draw in the first leg. Twice coming from behind, it was a strong performance from River Plate with Lucas Pratto on the score sheet and an own goal securing a vital draw and two away goals.
Attacking midfielder Gonzalo Martínez had another strong game, and striker Pratto would have gained a lot of confidence with a goal and man of the match performance in the first leg. Los Millonarios return home where they have won six of their last seven matches, scoring three or more goals on four occasions.
Striker Rafael Borré is suspended for this match but Ignacio Scocco is a handy replacement. Nicolás De La Cruz is injured but manager Marcelo Gallardo has a deep squad, highlighted by Bruno Zuculini and Juan Quintero coming off the bench in the first leg.
CA Boca Juniors
Boca Juniors blew a great chance to take an advantage into the second leg with a 2-2 home draw an unsatisfactory result. Twice allowing River Plate to equalise, Boca missed chances late in the game which could be their undoing.
Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s side defeated lowly Patronato 1-0 in the Argentina Superliga on Saturday, Cristian Espinoza with the winner in the 82nd minute. Mauro Zarate played the full match and Carlos Tevez played 83 minutes but star player Cristian Pavon didn’t feature after the injury picked up against River Plate.
Pavon was in tears after coming off in the 27th minute against River Plate, even if he takes part in the second leg he surely won’t be 100% fit. It’s a bitter blow for the six time Copa Libertadores champions who face a tough task away from home.
