AS Roma didn’t have the best of the starts to their Europa League campaign after being held to a 1-1 draw on matchday 1 by Viktoria Plzen. While Astra were comprehensively beaten at home by a brilliant and efficient Rapid Wien. And both teams will be looking for their first win in Group E when they lock horns at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday night.

The Serie giants are also not having the best of the times in their domestic campaign. They lot in 2 of their last three matches, both away from home which is an understatement of how vulnerable they are on the road this season. Roma are yet to win an away game in 2016/17, but they are a whole different team while playing at home. They have won in 3 or their 4 competitive games at home this season, with the lone win coming against Porto who knocked them out of the Champions League play-off final round.

Astra Giurgiu are a side struggling for form at the moment. They might have knocked out West Ham from the Europa League, but since then they have managed 2 wins from 6 competitive games. They are 10th in the 14 team Romanian League after 10 rounds with a 5 point gap from the relegation zone. Astra have won just 2 games away from home from 6 competitive games since the start of the season, one of which is at Wembley against West Ham.

Roma is a strong side at home and do have the experience at this level. While Astra despite their good run in the qualifying rounds have faded. The Romanians are especially vulnerable while playing away from home. Their finished 4th in their group last season after losing 4 games and look set for a similar fate this term.

Roma’ last win in Europe was in the Champions League 2015/16 group game against Bayer Leverkusen in November 2015. They have went on win-less for 7 games losing 4 and drawing 3. Astra is perfect opposition to break the jinx, but they might have to work harder.
