Roma stormed into the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia by routing Sampdoria in the previous round, but they go into Wednesday’s tie on a downer after their five-match winning run in all competitions was ended by the Blucerchiati at the weekend. However, only the most ardent of Cesena fans will be predicting anything other than a return to winning ways for Luciano Spalletti’s side here.
Cesena are fighting to stay in Serie B because a run of one win in their last five games has left them in the relegation zone heading into February. They have ousted a couple of top-flight sides from this competition, but Roma are a massive step up in quality from Empoli and Cesena and that should be clear for all to see as this quarter-final tie unfolds.
On the domestic front Roma have been flawless this season and they should cruise to another win at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night. A clean sheet should be on the cards too – after all Roma have conceded just seven goals at home in domestic competition during the 2016/17 campaign.
At the other end of the table striker Edin Dzeko has had no problems finding the back of the net during the past few weeks. The former Manchester City striker has scored in each of his last three appearances to take his season tally to 21 goals in all competitions, and he will be relishing the prospect of extending that sequence against the Serie B strugglers. Dzeko should find the back of the net if Spalletti names him in the side.
