After dispatching Palermo to make sure they remain in second spot, Roma will look to keep up the pressure on Juventus as they travel to face Sassuolo this Wednesday.

The Giallorossi are presently on a three-match winning streak and have lost just one out of their last five games. The victory over the struggling Rosanero came off the heels of a very impressive 3-1 drubbing of Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo. Luciano Spalletti’s men also recovered quite well after throwing away what appeared to be a win in Europa League action. Leading 3-1 for most of the game, Roma shipped two goals late on to allow Austria Wien to snatch a point at the Stadio Olimpico.

With Milan being on a rich vein of form, Roma will want to keep the Rossoneri at bay whilst trying to seriously challenge Juventus for the Scudetto. For the past few seasons, the Lupi have had to settle for a runners-up spot, and last time, they ended up in third behind Napoli.

Upcoming opponents Sassuolo have had their struggles as they compete on two fronts for the first time in their history. However, the Neroverdi have done admirably, especially considering that they have had to make do with talismanic forward Domenico Berardi pretty much since the start of this season. Eusebio Di Francesco’s men may sit in ninth, but they are just a few points off the top five and are very much afloat in their nascent Europa League campaign.

They surely will want to try to finally get the better of familiar foes Roma, who so far, have managed to thwart them three straight times at Sassuolo’s home ground. Will they end their frustrating run against the Lupi?

Sassuolo vs Roma: Head-to-head statistics

  • Roma have seen over 2.5 goals in all but one out of their last 12 games.

  • Roma have won all three meetings away against the Neroverdi, whilst shutting them out in every game.

Sassuolo vs Roma: Prediction

Having drawn with Bologna, the hosts will be eager to frustrate a high-flying Roma side who simply can’t stop scoring at the moment. Despite their defensive woes, Sassuolo nonetheless have no problems scoring themselves, and in fact, have yet to have a match where they have not found the back of the net. Yes, there was that 3-0 “loss” to Pescara, but that match actually finished as a 2-1 result.

An open match is expected here, with a fairly decent amount of goals. Roma, however, should be able to do enough to come out on top. The Giallorossi not only have never lost to Sassuolo (once of the few “bigger” teams in Serie A who haven’t), but also have won all three of their past trips to the Neroverdi home ground.

Furthermore, Sassuolo have never scored against Roma when the Lupi come to town. That surely will likely end this Wednesday, however as Spalletti’s men have conceded in all their away games this season.
