Serena Williams is into yet another Wimbledon final, and the American great will be looking to make amends for her defeat in the final twelve months ago.
Williams, who has won 26 of her last 27 matches at these Championships, began this year’s tournament with a straight-sets win over Giulia Gatto-Monticone, before battling from a set down to beat Kaja Juvan in round two.
The seven-time Wimbledon champion then got the better of both Julia Gorges and Carla Suarez Navarro in straight-sets to reach the quarter-finals.
Williams then had to fight through her toughest match of the tournament thus far to beat Alison Riske in three-sets,
before producing an exceptionally dominating performance to beat Barbora Strycova in the semi-finals,
for the loss of just three games. Serena Williams will be playing in her 11th singles final at the Wimbledon Championships, and she’ll be looking to finally win that elusive 24th grand slam title.
Former world number one Simona Halep is into her maiden Wimbledon final,
and the Romanian ace will be looking to make it a winning one. Halep has been in tremendous form at these Championships, and she’s coming into the final having dropped just one set over the two weeks.
The twenty-seven-year-old began with a straight-sets win over Aliaksandra Sasnovich, before dropping her only set thus far in a 2-1 second round win over Mihaela Buzarnescu.
Since the second round, Halep has blitzed through her matches and recorded fantastic straight-set wins over two-time grand slam champion Victoria Azarenka,
teenage sensation Coco Gauff, Zhang Shuai and WTA Finals champion Elina Svitolina.
It’s been a two weeks to remember for the 2018 French Open champion, and she’s going to fancy her chances of winning a 2nd grand slam title on Saturday afternoon.
