For good measure Peaty broke his old world record, set in the heats, in claiming gold to become the first British man since Adrian Moorhouse in 1988 to win an Olympic swimming gold.

GB claimed 65 medals at London 2012 but have set the target for Rio 2016 at 48, which would represent their best ever overseas Games.
