Napoli have a notoriously poor record away to Udinese and it could be another serious blow to their campaign.
The Zebrette come into this match seemingly having turned a corner. Since losing 2-1 to Juventus in mid-October, they have built up a four-match unbeaten streak, even though clean sheets continue to elude them. Still, Luigi Del Neri’s work appears to be finally taking root, but it will be interesting to see if Udinese will be up to the task against a somewhat weakened, but still dangerous Napoli side.
For the Partenopei, this season has been one of highs and lows that sum up to a great deal of frustration for supporters. Maurizio Sarri’s side saw key man Gonzalo Higuain depart to Juventus in a move that angered Napoli fans around the world. When Arkadiusz Milik suffered a knee injury whilst on international duty with Poland, it emerged Manolo Gabbiadini was a poor fit for the centre-forward role.
Sarri has had to tinker with different formations, including playing Dries Mertens as a False Nine with mixed results. Still, there have been some bright spots, namely Jose Callejon’s solid showings for the side, albeit his manager will hope he can pick up from where he left off before the international hiatus.
The visitors have yet another major concern on their hands, with skipper Marek Hamsik suffering from flu symptoms. The Slovak star returned from international duty with a fever and fans will be holding their collective breaths regarding his availability.
As for Udinese, as noted before, keeping a clean sheet still remains a major problem. In fact, they have conceded in their past nine matches overall and their last five at the Dacia Arena. And given that Napoli have scored in all but one of their league games so far this term, expect goals at both ends in what could be an interesting clash.
Keep an eye on: Emanuele Giaccherini (Napoli) – To be honest, one would be forgive for forgetting that the diminutive winger plays his club football for the Partenopei. Luck hasn’t been on his side as he arrived with an injury this summer, but having reportedly recovered, it will be interesting to see how he can slot into the starting XI and contribute to the team’s cause.
