Brandon Williams reflected on another positive personal showing, after Manchester United were held to a goalless draw by Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday.
The 19-year-old shone on his competition debut, keeping in-form Wolves winger Adama Traore quiet for large periods of the game.
He also had a shout for a penalty on the half-hour mark, when he appeared to have been tripped by Leander Dendoncker inside the home side’s 18-yard-box.
“I think it’s a penalty but obviously [the Video Assistant Referee] thinks different,” Williams told us after the conclusion of the match. “We’ve just got to move on from the decision and score another goal.
“We’re unlucky. We had some great chances but we’ve just got to put them away. [It’s a] disappointing result but we’re still in the cup.”
Williams placed second behind goalkeeper Sergio Romero in the Man of-the-Match poll on our Official App, as defences came out on top at Molineux.
The homegrown talent has now made 13 appearances for the first-team after impressing for the Under-23s earlier in the campaign. He was pleased to have started alongside fellow youngsters Tahith Chong and Mason Greenwood in the Black Country.
“Another clean sheet, and it’s positive for the defenders,” Williams added. “Well the whole team really, it starts from the top but we wanted to win so a bit disappointed.
“I think when me, Mason, Chongy, also Angel [Gomes] was involved [as an unused substitute], walking out on the pitch together.
“We know each other we grew up together and it’s something we want to keep on doing, playing with each other.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had kind words for Williams during his post-match press conference in the Midlands.
The Norwegian was effusive in his praise for the teenager, when asked whether he was giving him a selection dilemma at left-back, with Luke Shaw and Ashley Young also vying for that position.
