Three Bayern players in action for France in goalless draw with Portugal
It was the world champions against the European champions: With Bayern players Lucas Hernándezand Benjamin Pavard in the starting XI, and despite dominating the game, especially in the second half, France were unable to get more than a goalless draw against reigning Nations League champions Portugal. Kingsley Coman came off the bench in the 84th minute, but was also unable to provide a knockout blow for Les Bleus. Corentin Tolisso, on the other hand, didn’t make an appearance. The draw puts the Portuguese ahead of the Équipe Tricolore in group A3, with both teams on seven points from three games. Lewandowski’s Poland draw 0-0 with Italy
Poland’s A1 group clash with Italy also ended goalless. European Footballer of the Year Robert Lewandowski played 82 minutes in Gdansk, but was largely kept in check by the Squadra Azzura’s back line. Good scoring opportunities were therefore in short supply from both sides in a match which had very few highlights. As the points were shared, the situation in the table remains exciting: Italy top the group on five points, with Poland and the Netherlands both just behind on four. On Wednesday, Lewandowski and Co. will host bottom-placed Bosnia-Herzegovina, who have just two points in Wroclaw.
Alaba celebrates victory with Austria
David Alaba celebrated a deserved 1-0 win in Northern Ireland with the Austrian national team. The goal of the day in Belfast was scored by Augsburg’s Michael Gregoritsch in the 42nd minute. The result means the Austrians stay level with Norway on seven points in Group B1. This Wednesday Franco Foda’s team will play Romania in Ploiesti.
