Barcelona’s former president, Joan Laporta has opened up on the club’s talisman, Lionel Messi and his future with them by claiming that the striker will have “no trouble” in signing a new contract extension in the near future.

Messi’s future at the club has come under question in recent times following his spat with the management, with the 32-year-old getting embroiled in a spat with technical director, Eric Abidal while also criticising the hierarchy over their handling of the reduction in wages of the players during the coronavirus or COVID-19 crisis.

Messi can leave the club for free at the end of the season, but Laporta believes that it would be easy for him to sign a new contract.

“[Messi] will have no trouble renewing his contract,” he said while also revealing that he would bring back Neymar to the club for sure should he get re-elected as president when he runs for the post once again next year.

Another former player that Laporta is keen to bring back is Xavi, who has been tipped to return back to the Nou Camp as the manager in the near future.

“Xavi? Of course it would be possible. It would be the natural solution, there will come a time when he will consider it. He has to decide when,” he concluded.
