Alphonso Davies got three assists as Canada picked up three points in their 5-1 win over Bermuda in their 2020 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The 20-year-old FC Bayern full-back played on the wing and was involved in nearly every forward move for his team.

Despite a 16-month break, it didn’t take the Canadians long to find their rhythm at the Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida. After a perfect free-kick from Davies, Cyle Larin headed in to make it 1-0 (19′). A few minutes later, Davies used his speed, played a long ball in front of the goalkeeper and found Larin again in the centre, who finished to make it 2-0 (27′). After the next goal from Richie Laryea (59′) and a consolation goal for Bermuda (63′) – thanks to some help from the Canadian keeper – it was Davies again who pushed forward on the left and found Larin, who only had to tap in for his third of the day (69′). Substitute Theo Corbeanu scored the final goal in the 5-1 win (81′).

Cayman Islands on Sunday
Canada made the perfect start on the road to Qatar. They continue on Sunday evening (22:00 CEST) when they take on the Cayman Islands. To survive the first qualifying round, Davies & Co. must finish Group B (also including Suriname and Aruba) as winners.
