Paulo Fonseca was in an upbeat mood on Sunday evening, after seeing his side beat Parma 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.

Without a few key playes due to injury, the Giallorossi nevertheless romped to victory against their struggling visitors – as Borja Mayoral and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (2) got themselves on the scoresheet.

Here’s what the boss had to say about the game.

What rating out of 10 would you give this Roma performance? Eight?

“We played really well, especially in the first half – when we scored three goals and we could have scored even more. I think the team is in good form right now. In the second half we managed the game, but we still created chances to add to the scoreline.”

When will you start to talk with the club about your future?

“That doesn’t depend on me, but I’m not concerned about it either. I am focused completely on my work. I’m pleased because the team is playing well and winning too. That’s the most important thing. That’s the thing that matters for Roma.”

Did you expect Henrikh Mkhitaryan to be this good?

“Mkhitaryan is a really clever footballer, a great professional, he can cover a few different positions and he has the perfect attitude. So it hasn’t surprised me the way he’s been able to perform.”

Were you hoping the team would be able to react like this to the absence of Edin Dzeko?

“The squad is full of confidence right now. It’s true that Dzeko is an important part of that, as is Chris Smalling and also Lorenzo Pellegrini. We’ve changed players out there today but not our identity. Today, with different players, we really put in a good performance.”

Borja Mayoral is developing, but could he still do more in the build-up for the team?

“He played well against a side that sits deep. He really worked hard for the team. His decisions were the right ones and he made a really good run for his goal. He’s developing and he’s growing in confidence.”
