It was a very productive October indeed for Michy Batshuayi, and the striker’s personality and performances have earned him credit from Frank Lampard.
The boss has been impressed with what has seen since starting work Batshuayi in the summer, and the Belgian’s efforts in training have paid dividends recently. He netted his first Premier League goal for us since October 2017 in Southampton, and followed that up with a crucial winner against Ajax and then a stunning solo strike in the Carabao Cup in midweek.
If he features at Watford at any point today, the 26-year-old will looking to maintain his excellent record against them, with four goals scored in three league games.
‘It was interesting to see not just the player – I kind of knew the quality Michy had and it’s always good to see that up close – but also the personality,’ Lampard explained.
‘Since early season, how he’s trained, his demeanour, his positivity, and quality when he’s come on, which is obviously the most important thing, have been top class.
‘When Tammy is scoring regular goals and getting a firm foot in the team, that’s not easy. It’s the same for Oli [Giroud]. Michy has shown all the right ways of handling that. He has been very good for us so far, and that positive spirit when you’re not playing regularly is not just important for him, cause that’s tough sometimes, but it’s important for the group. He deserves extra praise for that.
‘He’s positive, hard-working, loves scoring goals,’ added Lampard.
‘That might sound simple for a striker but I’ve seen some who don’t love it quite as much. He loves scoring in training, he always stays out to do extra practice. I’m thankful to have him in the squad.
‘Everybody is different, sometimes if a player is not playing so much they can ask questions, be upset, be down, and he’s shown the opposite.’
