Napoli captain Marek Hamsik reportedly called Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani and asked him to return.

The Uruguayan striker was the predecessor of Gonzalo Higuain in both role and status for the Partenopei, making them a serious threat to the Juventus hegemony between 2010 and 2013.

With the club from Naples looking for a star striker and Inter resisting their advances for Mauro Icardi, some have suggested that a shock return of Cavani could still be an option.

Newspaper Il Roma now suggests that Hamsik himself called Cavani and asked him to return.

“Come on, Edi, come with us to play and win again,” Hamsik is believed to have said.

Even allowing for the captain’s intervention, though, a move at this stage seems unlikely, especially after PSG sold Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
