Mauro Icardi is alleged to have told Inter President Steven Zhang that having the captaincy taken from him was a ‘pointless humiliation’.

La Repubblica has recounted a conversation between the striker and Zhang before the Derby della Madonnina last Sunday, describing it as ‘decisive’ for his return to training.

“I’ve never not respected anyone,” he is quoted as saying.

“I have 97.5 percent participation in training, no-one has ever complained about my professionalism or behaviour. Taking the armband away from me was a pointless humiliation.”

Inter are expected to confirm the Argentine’s attendance at their Appiano Gentile complex soon.
