Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz is Bundesliga’s Player of the Month for May.

The youngster saw off competition from the likes of Achraf Hakimi, Timo Werner Joshua Kimmich, Benjamin Pavard, and Christoph Baumgartner to pick the award, which was announced on Tuesday.

The award is normally decided through a two-stage selection process, combining vote by fans and experts as well as data of individual performances.

Kai has enjoyed a wonderful campaign with Leverkusen, with his performances attracting the attention of Europe’s top clubs.

He is the youngest player to make 100 Bundesliga appearances and recently added another feather to his cap, becoming the first player in league history aged under 21 to score 35 goals.

The 20-year-old has featured mostly as a striker for the Leverkusen, scoring nine goals in 13 appearances this year.

It is this form that has attracted the attention of the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea, who are thought to be keen on snapping him next season.

The club’s chief recently admitted that he does not know where the player will play next season, suggesting they were open to doing business.

The Player of the Month award is created by the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga in cooperation with the Bundesliga’s official licensing partner, EA SPORTS FIFA 20.
