Joshua Kimmich made a tackle against Sadio Mané in the 28th minute of the Champions League last sixteen first leg away to Liverpool. It was a crucial challenge, but it also had negative consequences as Kimmich saw the yellow card. The 24-year-old will miss the return leg at the Allianz Arena on 13 March after his third booking so far. Besides Kimmich, Bayern will have to make do without Thomas Müller, who missed Tuesday’s match too.

Six milestones at Anfield

Franck Ribéry had reason to celebrate after the birth of his son anyway, but the match at Anfield marked a special milestone too. The Frenchman made his 100th European appearance for FC Bayern in the Champions League last sixteen first leg against Liverpool. Only four players have played more European matches for the Bavarians, Oliver Kahn, Philipp Lahm, Thomas Müller and Bastian Schweinsteiger. Mats Hummels, Javi Martínez, James Rodríguez and Thiago made their 50th appearance in Europe’s elite club competition on Tuesday. David Alaba made his 75th European appearance, wearing Bayern colours in all of them.
