What a story! Just as they did three days ago in the 3-1 win at Freiburg, Bayern’s last-gasp duo ensured a late win against VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday.

Joshua Zirkzee (85) and Serge Gnabry (89) earned the Reds a hugely important 2-0 win over the Lower Saxony side with their late goals and ensured a brilliant finale to the year.

“It’s just nice that we were able to win the game with the two late goals,” said coach Hansi Flick afterward. “It certainly wasn’t our best performance but if you look at recent games, the team deserved the win. They kept believing until the end.” On his golden touch with the substitution of Zirkzee, the 54-year-old said: “I just told him to get into dangerous areas, which is his strength. He certainly has the coolness but it’s about developing him – just like it is with the other players.”

Gnabry was also full of praise for his partner in crime: “He’s a good lad, a good footballer with good instinct. The coach made a good substitution again. Joshua scored during the week and he feels good, and it’s even better that he put another one away today. We’re a team. Every young player who comes up will be accepted by us because we were all in their shoes once.”
