Before kick-off in Saturday night’s top match against Hertha BSC, Robert Lewandowski received the award for Germany’s Footballer of the Year 2021 – and after the whistle blew, the Pole impressively demonstrated why he deserves this title like no other. Lewandowski is a phenomenon and the man for a record: With his three goals against Berlin, the 33-year-old extended his strong run of goal-scoring and set new records:

Personal record run in the Bundesliga
Against Hertha, he scored in his 13th Bundesliga match in a row and set a personal best. Only the late Gerd Müller was more successful in this run: The “Bomber” scored in 16 Bundesliga appearances in a row in the 1969/70 season.

Landmark goal and beating Gerd Müller’s streak
Lewandowski even scored for his 16th consecutive competitive match – Gerd Müller achieved that feat in the Bundesliga alone, but only scored in 15 straight competitive matches. The Polish national team captain also scored his 299th, 300th, 301st goals against Hertha in just his 333rd appearance for Bayern. This mark is surpassed only by Gerd Müller (566 goals in 607 matches) in the history of the German record champions.
