Mayoral was on the scoresheet again on Sunday evening, but it was not enough for Roma as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at Torino.

A second-half fightback proved enough for the hosts despite the Spaniard’s third-minute strike – as the Giallorossi wasted a number of other first half openings at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.

“I think we started the game well,” Mayoral said.

“There was a lot of space, but we weren’t able to score a second goal despite creating a lot of chances. In the second half they got the equaliser and then things became tougher.”

He added: “I don’t think we got the approach wrong. As I said, we should have made more of the chances we had in the first half to score a second goal. It’s a tough loss to take, but now we need to focus on the next game.”
