Former Barcelona president, Sandro Rosell has opened up on the Neymar transfer situation, claiming that, club talisman, Lionel Messi wants the Brazilian back at the Nou Camp as he is smart and wants to win every trophy.

It was under Rosell’s presidency that Neymar made the move to the Nou Camp, though the former resigned the following year amid controversy over the funding of the transfer and later spent time in prison before being acquitted.

“From a sporting point of view, I would sign Neymar (again). But with a contract depending on sporting and social results and behaviour. In writing.” he said as per Evening Standard.

It is is no secret that Messi and Neymar became good friends during the Brazilian’s time in Spain and that the 32-year-old did not want him to leave the club for Paris Saint-Germain back in 2017.

Messi for his part has always wanted Neymar to return and Rosell echoes his decision, revealing that it makes sense if the club wants to win trophies.

“Because Messi, who is the best player in the history of football and very smart, wants the best players in the world by his side in order to win everything.”

It will be interesting to see how this transfer saga pans out in the summer, considering that the financial implications arising out of the coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic might make it very difficult for clubs to splurge large amounts of money when it comes to transfers.
